You Don't Say!
"“OUT/BREAK” is an original and exciting horror adventure with an interesting high concept and plenty of action. There are a lot of directions to go from this starting point, and the first act frames the injustice Dante faces and his personal struggle (his voice over is intense and desperate) in such convincing and poignant terms that a straightforward drama would be quite engaging with no fantastical elements. We can also feel the stakes and danger when he dares to escape, and an action thriller would work too. When the script reveals the zombies, it doesn’t lose that character drama or the action, however, instead blending these genres to something new and compelling. Dante is a complex protagonist who makes some important decisions. He is tortured by the injustice, but he does not let despair defeat him, and his race to escape both the bars of prison and a potential death by zombies is invigorating."

"The script has a strong premise, putting its lead in a very interesting and instantly engaging rock-and-a-hard-place scenario where he must live two lives, and unravel the mystery from both ends of his situation. The script has a strong sense of satire and is consistently funny, and many absurd and bizarre elements work because they simply follow the logic of our present state, and speak to the frustrations and emotions of the average American as a result. The gradual reveal of the entire system at play is strong, such as when Dante and Angie uncover the gaming aspect, and the levels of prisons-within-prisons makes for sharp social commentary...the satire is strong and the script takes these real feelings into the realm of genre..."

"The concept is a fresh take on the zombie genre, with the characteristics of the zombies and the uniqueness of the world helping create that. Also, the main characters of Angie and Dante are wonderful protagonists, both three-dimensional and compelling to watch."
